Temporary Construction Site Fencing – Manchester Airport

Galliford Try protects their new construction project with FenceSafe Temporary Construction Site Fencing

When Galliford Try started work on Manchester Airports largest Multi-Storey Car Park, they needed to deploy a temporary construction site fencing system that could be converted at the end of the project into a permanent fencing system. The 8000 space, 5 storey new car park is currently one of the largest construction projects being carried out at Manchester Airport.

Galliford Try tendered for the project back in the summer of 2018 and started work on the site towards the end of the same year. What became apparent from the outset was that the ‘norm’ wasn’t suitable for this flagship project.

Three key factors were required for the Temporary Site Fencing. These were, Cost Management; Safety and Branding. Early on in the project Galliford Try and MAG discounted the use of existing temporary fencing systems for the perimeter security fencing on the project.

Mark Foster; Senior Agent on the project said “It was a collaborative approach from early doors between ourselves and Manchester Airports Group (MAG). We needed a robust fence on the project which led us to FenceSafe.

“The ability to purchase the permanent fencing for the completed project and use it as the temporary had large cash management savings overall on the project. Further environmentally we are not scrapping the temporary fence. We noticed that the drivers on site are not hitting the mesh panels which is more cost effective for us as temporary fencing panels don’t need to be replaced.”

In total over 1km of FenceSafe was supplied to Galliford Try for the project. Extended posts were used on the FenceSafe bases allowing the fencing to be converted to a permanent ground dug system at the end of the project. Finished in galvanised steel before Polyester Powder Coating in RAL 6005 Green the heavy duty mesh infill offers a higher level of site security than standard Temporary Construction Site Fencing Systems.

With 100% Recycled MDPE Patented Bases, the entire system achieves a BREEAM Green Guide rating of A. Making it one of the most environmentally friendly Temporary Fencing systems on the marketplace.

Access to the building site was controlled via FenceSafe swing gates and crowd control barriers (supplied by others). This gave an effective gate house location and has resulted in total control of who is on the site at all times.

Mark said “With most of the major Main Contractors working on Manchester Airport at the same time, it was vital we were able to control both the footprint of our project and at the same time the safety of our workforce.
